Confluence

Confluence is a ten movement work written several members of Carlos’ extended family who donated to help Carlos travel with MYSO’s flagship orchestra, Senior Symphony, on tour to Argentina and Uruguay. Each movement was originally intended as a kind gesture to each of the donors, but soon Carlos began to put them together into a set of miniatures. Each movement has a unique character, usually defined the respective name-motifs. Using an adapted version of the French musical cryptogram system, Carlos converted each name into a short theme that often recurs in each of the movements a few times - each occurrence of this is notated in the sheet music to aid the performer in understanding the methodology behind each movement’s significance and form.
