Essay No. 1

Essay No. 1 signifies an orchestral exploration in terms of the sounds and construction of music for a large orchestra. The work is meant to evoke thoughts of outer space - particularly of its wonder, continuity, beauty, and most importantly, of its mystery and vastness. Fluid yet sometimes static harmonies and rich, short melodies drive this orchestral piece forward. The major moments of the piece symbolize an intensity that, like space, could be sublime and perhaps beyond comprehension. Originally written for entry into the DSSO (Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra) Young Composer Competition.
