Bell Tower Echos

Bell Tower Echos is a piece written for Marimba and Vibraphone, one player. Originally intended for a composition studio concert at the Blair School of Music, this work explores the concept of distance in music. Using the vibraphone to represent a bell-like theme contrasts with the more spatially close yet somewhat hollow quality of the marimba. With few motives happening as events between silence for most of the work, this piece also serves as a challenge for many percussionists in that it gives little rhythmic backbone for the performer to fall back on.
