Ensemble Musikfabrik at Peabody / Four Sigils for Brass premiere

As a part of a collaboration during the 2022-2023 academic year, Ensemble Musikfabrik musicians Marco Blaauw and Christine Chapman worked closely with selected student composers of the Peabody Institute to produce a collection of new works for their highly variable duet. As not only tremendously technically adept players, but owners of the double-bell variants of their respective primary instruments (trumpet and horn), Marco and Christine offered these composers a nearly inexhaustible palate of timbral and textural colors. After rehearsing the finished pieces with each of the composers, they will present a pair of performances featuring solo and duet works over two consecutive nights at the Peabody Institute.

On the first of these two concerts, three movements of Carlos’ Four Sigils for Brass will be premiered. That aside, it was poor fate that a family reunion in Ireland will preclude Carlos from attending the performance. With this in mind during its composition, Four Sigils for Brass took on a unique emotional character that is further explicated in the notes on the piece (linked above with the title).

This concert will take place in Peabody’s Center Street Performance Studio and will be open to the public.
